School Holiday 28 September 2026 updates are here for students and parents in Delhi-NCR, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, Gurugram, Punjab and other states who want to know whether schools will open on Monday. The biggest confirmed closure is in Punjab, where schools and other educational institutions will stay shut across the state on 28 September on the occasion of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Jayanti. In Uttar Pradesh, the Bareilly district has declared a school holiday because of continuing heavy rainfall, and the order covers all UP Board, CBSE and ICSE schools from Nursery to Class 12. The closure order was issued by the District School Inspector on the instructions of the District Magistrate. For Delhi, the India Meteorological Department has not issued any warning for 28 September, and no official school holiday has been announced, so schools are expected to run as usual. Haryana, including Gurugram, also has no IMD warning and no statewide closure for the day. The IMD has, however, issued weather warnings for several other states. Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are under heavy rain alerts, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may see thunderstorms, lightning and squalls, East Rajasthan has a thunderstorm warning, and Andhra Pradesh may face thunderstorms with strong surface winds across Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. South Interior Karnataka is under a heavy rain and thunderstorm warning, while Kerala and Madhya Pradesh may see thunderstorms and lightning. None of these states has announced a statewide school closure so far, and district authorities may issue separate orders based on local conditions. Parents should remember that a weather warning does not automatically mean schools are closed.
